WHAT IS OCEAN ENERGY?

Ocean energy, also referred to as marine renewable energy, marine power, marine energy, and ocean power, refers to the energy carried by ocean waves and tides. The movement of water in the world’s oceans creates a vast store of kinetic energy, or energy in motion. This energy can be harnessed to create electricity to power homes, transport and industries.

The term marine energy encompasses both wave energy and tidal energy obtained from oceans, seas, and, in general, other large bodies of water. Offshore wind energy is also sometimes included under the description of marine energy. Marine energy is similar to hydroelectric power, although that term usually refers to energy generated by dammed rivers or waterfalls.

The oceans have a tremendous amount of energy and are close to many if not most concentrated populations. Many researches show that ocean energy has the potentiality of providing for a substantial amount of new renewable energy around the world.

WHAT EXACTLY IS IT THAT YOUR PRODUCTS DO?

By harnessing energy from wind-generated ocean waves, our system uses ocean wave motion routed through a special wing shape to optimally absorb the wave energy.  The system also converts the elliptical motion of the ocean waves into linear mechanical motion to drive different power generators.  By tapping into the hydrokinetic energy and producing base loads of renewable utility-scale electricity these generators can then be hooked up to the power-grid via coaxial cable to deliver power back into the grid.  Renewable ocean wave energy has the potential to provide power for both residential and commercial customers, particularly near coastal areas.

HOW LARGE ARE THE SYSTEMS?

Our MMWG is approximately 8 ft wide by 8 ft tall and 16 ft long, weighing about 10,000 pounds. The top section of the MDSWEET is approximately 6 ft diameter X 16 ft long.  The lower section is approximately 6 ft tall, 8 ft wide, and 14 ft long.  It weighs around 24,000 pounds.

WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF THE SYSTEMS ON THE MARINE LIFE AND OCEAN?

Our systems are completely eco-friendly.  They do not use any fossil fuels, are virtually self-sustaining, and produce energy in a safe, clean, and reliable manner.

HOW DEEP DOES THE SYSTEM SIT IN THE OCEAN?

Our systems will sit approximately 30 – 100 feet below the surface and 1 – 3 miles out from the coastline.

DO YOU HAVE ANY CURRENT TESTING RESULTS?

Currently, our prototype energy system is scheduled to be tested near Vero Beach, Florida during the second week of September 2010.  Additional testing for the full-scale commercial energy system is scheduled for mid-2011.  Our water system is in the research and development phase and will be tested during the third quarter 2011.

HOW IS YOUR PRODUCT ANY DIFFERENT FROM YOUR COMPETITION’S PRODUCT?

Our product is different in a number of ways:

1. We do not have any pollution above the ocean waves, including visual pollution.  Because our product is anchored on the ocean floor closer to the surface, it doesn’t need to appear above the surface.

2. We do not use any hydraulics within our generator which means we do not have the probability of leaking pollutants into the ocean environment.  Because we use magnets, early testing shows that the system may be more efficient than other products on the market.

3. According to preliminary testing we project that our systems can withstand very significant hurricane forces.  This is because the wing is designed so that it can be laid down securely to the ocean floor during severe tropical storms and hurricanes.

HOW MUCH ELECTRICITY CAN YOU PRODUCE?

Our current estimated production rate is up to 1.0 MW per energy system.  This means in an array of 20 units we can produce enough electricity to power approximately 7,000 homes.

HOW MUCH CLEAN DRINKING WATER CAN YOU PRODUCE?

Each unit is estimated to support the production of approximately 500 million gallons of desalinated water per year.
